"Man on the make" nghĩa là gì?

"Man on the make" = Người đàn ông đang có nhu cầu -> Người đàn ông đang kiếm bạn tình/đang theo đuổi một lợi ích cá nhân.

Ví dụ
They added: "He’s a man on the make and a shameless social climber (kẻ thích làm quen với những người giàu sang), but he lacks the brains and drive of his father. "He’s ambitious (tham vọng) and arrogant (kiêu ngạo), pompous (khoa trương) and slippery (láu cá, không đáng tin).”

Jack Lemmon is a young man on the make who lets his company’s executives use his apartment for extra-marital affairs (những vụ ngoại tình). After an office Christmas party, he finds his boss’s mistress (tình nhân), a young woman played by Shirley MacLaine, whom he knows from the office, at his apartment, where she’s tried to overdose (sử dụng quá liều) on pills. They strike up a complicated relationship with multiple entanglements (rối rắm, vướng mắc), both professional and personal. It’s a remarkable movie (and a Best Picture winner) that ends on New Year’s Eve.

For better or worse, that encapsulated (tóm lược) my view of late-model post-prison David Crosby: he was a man on the make, driven by his circumstances (which had surely left him in the sort of desperate yet oddly affluent (xa hoa, giàu có) lifestyle that seems to befall the formerly rich and celebrated in this country) to leverage (đầu cơ vay nợ) what was left of his star power to pay his bills. He was a tragic (bi kịch) figure, proudly undone as much by hubris (ngạo mạn, xấc xược) as his legendary appetite (lòng tham muốn, sự thèm ăn) for illicit (trái phép, bị cấm, lậu) substances.
