"The other side of the tracks" nghĩa là gì?

'The other side of the tracks' = phía bên kia đường ray (đôi khi đường ray tàu hỏa được coi là phân định các khu vực kinh tế khác nhau trong khu vực) -> nghĩa là khu vực nghèo của một thành phố hay thị trấn.

Ví dụ
McDougall said she was happy to see all areas of the town represented at the initial meeting. “Upper Heffley, main Heffley and lower Heffley, on the other side of the tracks, were there,” she said. “The community can determine the size of the block.”

Chinese immigrants (nhập cư) lived on rougher land on the other side of the tracks from the main settlement. Today there is little left to mark the spot other than the foundation of the original station and a few scattered dwellings. The town was abandoned by around 1910.

After all, the case takes place in the slow-moving world of rural (nông thôn) Louisiana, over the span of four years. So urgency (cấp bách) isn’t a hallmark of this case. That’s the point that Galkin is trying to get across; because these victims (nạn nhân) literally come from “the other side of the tracks,” and had dabbled in drugs and prostitution (mại dâm), it seemed like authorities in Jennings and Jefferson Davis Parish didn’t make linking and investigating the murders a high priority (ưu tiên).
