"Give them a hammering" nghĩa là gì?

"Give (someone) a hammering" = cho ai một trận đòn -> cụm từ này nghĩa là đánh ai dữ dội; đánh thắng hoặc đánh bại ai một cách chân chính; khiển trách, phê phán ai nặng nề.
Ví dụ
There was plenty on the line (mập mờ ở giữa) a fortnight (hai tuần lễ) ago when the counties clashed in Ennis. “Sure when it came down to Clare and Limerick, I was only hoping Clare would give them a hammering, text the auld lad and let him know about it!
