"Close at hand" = Gần trong tầm tay -> Khoảng cách rất gần; điều gì sắp đến và diễn ra nhanh thôi; cái có thể sử dụng được hoặc có hiệu lực (something available).

Ví dụ
Anyone who has seen the workings of universal credit close at hand, along with the scant (hiếm, vừa đủ) support given to jobseekers by the Department for Work and Pensions (lương hưu), will not be surprised to hear that hundreds of thousands of people, many of them seeking jobs for the first time, have abandoned hope of obtaining employment in the traditional and “official” way.

This may be easier said than done with a new baby, but mothers really need to give themselves a break during the healing process. Avoid stairs, keep baby supplies close at hand, and accept any help that friends and family offer. Slow, gentle walks can help prevent constipation (táo bón) and blood clots (cục máu), but strenuous (tích cực, hăng hái) exercise should be avoided until the doctor gives the green light. A perfectly healthy incision (vết rạch) can take up to six weeks to heal properly, and Dr. Heller says an infected wound (vết thương bị nhiễm trùng) is usually healed in less than two months if the mother is in good health.

Crude (thô) showed sharp swings last week, sustaining sharp losses (tổn thất nặng nề) early in the week, but managed to erase (xóa bỏ) these losses by the end of the week. The catalyst (chất xúc tác) for the extensive up-and-down movement last week was the U.S-China trade talks, as investors continue to hunt for clues (truy tìm manh mối) as to whether an agreement is close at hand. There has been little news from the trade front, save for some contradictory statements (những lời tuyên bố mâu thuẫn) from President Trump about the extent of progress in the current round of talks. Any announcement that the sides are making substantial progress (sự tiến bộ vững chắc) could translate into gains for crude (dầu thô).
