"Fight like Kilkenny cats" nghĩa là gì?

"Fight like Kilkenny cats" = chiến đấu như những chú mèo Kilkenny -> cụm từ này nghĩa là chiến đấu, không đồng ý một cách quyết liệt, dữ dội. Nó xuất phát từ câu chuyện về hai con mèo ở thị trấn Kilkenny của Ailen, được cho là đã chiến đấu với nhau cho đến khi chỉ còn lại đuôi của mình.

Ví dụ
Venugopal said they fought "like Kilkenny cats" and exposed India's premier investigation agency to public ridicule (sự chế nhạo, giễu cợt). If the government hadn't stepped in, he said, "only God knows where and how this fight between the two top officers would have ended".

Making the show was not always smooth sailing. "Behind the scenes, we fought like Kilkenny cats! As time passed, there was more pressure to play the hits, but I thought all the pop crap should go to Ready To Roll. I would bully my producer, they would back off and I would play what I liked. I don't know how I got away with it, but I did."

Politics has degenerated (thoái hóa) into an unending battle between interest groups (nhóm có chung lợi ích, mục đích), in which each seeks (tìm kiếm) advantage at the expense of the rest. Much of the fighting is conducted by a thriving industry of lobbyists (người vận động ở hành lang). Even the churches fight like Kilkenny cats for a bigger share of the government handouts to private schools – just so they can afford to teach their children Christian values, of course.
