"Like a bird in a gilded cage" nghĩa là gì?

Mình giống người tối cổ quá, không biết thế sự ngoài kia ra sao!! Photo by Zahid Lilani on Unsplash

"Be/Like a bird in a gilded cage" = như con chim nhốt trong lồng vàng -> cụm từ này nghĩa là sống trong sự giàu có, sang trọng nhưng lại không có sự tự do, hạnh phúc và viên mãn đúng nghĩa.

Ví dụ
Many presidents have been openly miserable (đáng thương) about living there. While Gerald Ford remarked it was the "best public housing" he had seen, Ronald Reagan said life in the White House like "a bird in a gilded cage."

With the birth of Alexandre, she plunged (chìm ngập, lao vào) into postpartum depression (chứng trầm cảm sau sinh). But even before that, she was beginning to feel like a bird in a gilded cage. Pierre, she wrote in her 2010 memoir, wanted her “barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen.” She wanted to be more than “a rose on his lapel (ve áo).”

And part of doing that was walking through fire to leave Peter, who turned out to be my gay ex-husband. We’re the best of friends now, but I was suffocated (ngột ngạt), and I felt like a bird in a gilded cage. I should have been happy, but I wasn’t. And reaching my stride (bước dài) through “The Nanny” made me realize: I’m famous, I have money, and friends, and a beautiful home. I’m married. What’s the problem? I’m not happy.
