"On the back of an envelope" nghĩa là gì?

"On the back of an envelope" = ở mặt sau của phong bì -> cụm từ này nghĩa là tính toán một cách phỏng chừng, tính nhẩm các phép đơn giản, có thể viết và tính trên một tờ giấy nhỏ, ngay trên mặt sau của phong bì. Sở dĩ có thành ngữ này là vì khi ta muốn làm toán một cách vội vã, ta thường kiếm vội một mảnh giấy để viết các con số lên đó, và thường thường thì một cái bao thư là cái dễ tìm thấy nhất để viết lên đó.

At the risk of being overly brutal, one is tempted to observe that it might as well all be written on the back of an envelope, or even one of Nigel’s old fag packets (gói thuốc lá), so sketchy (sơ sài, sơ lược) are the contents and so obviously are they dominated by him and him alone.
