"Sour as vinegar" = chua như giấm. Nghĩa khác là xấu tính, (tính tình) khó chịu.

Ví dụ
Sometimes he turns up with bags of red or black cherries and green grapes sour as vinegar.

John Dooley found the people there “as sour as vinegar.” “They are opposed (chống đối) to us all along this [Monocacy] valley, and are or pretend to be fearful of punishment (sợ trừng phạt) from the Yankees.”

“Night crows (quạ đêm),” Adath said, “and she the queen of the crows. The king likes bright colors, bright words—she has no chance.” From the group of the Hebrew (Do Thái) wives came Yeshara's voice, words sour as vinegar.

The universal belief is, that all things which have become sour to the taste are converted into vinegar ; hence, if a glass of really pure Aiken wine is presented to a connoisseur (người sảnh sỏi) in the article, he will pronounce it not only as sour as vinegar, but he will venture to say that the glass contains more vinegar than wine.
