“The feeling is that with Prince Philip retired at 98 and the Queen now 93, Charles has to take a firm grip on the family and plan for the future,” said another source.

And he did – trouble was, while he had managed to take a firm grip on one end of the stick, the gentleman next to him had managed to take hold of the other end of it , and in that moment, both decided they wouldn’t be letting go.

Spurs, who replaced Mauricio Pochettino with José Mourinho as manager on 20 November, have recovered from picking up only one point from their first two matches to take a firm grip on second place in the section thanks to home and away wins against Crvena zvezda, giving them a four-point cushion over the Serbian champions. The London club will therefore guarantee progress with a win, or if they draw and Crvena zvezda fail to win at home to already-qualified section leaders Bayern München.
