"Take a long walk on a short pier" = Đi bộ thật lâu trên bến tàu ngắn -> Cút/đi thật xa và để ai một mình vì chuyện đang được nói đến hoặc thực hiện rất kinh khủng, gây chọc tức hoặc kích thích người ta.

Ví dụ
“I'm sure previous presidents have been very tempted to just tell Congress to take a long walk on a short pier, but they haven't done it,” Mr.

“I think using racial slurs (vu khống, nhục nhã) or calling people vile (kinh tởm, đê mạt) names if they are a certain race, that is horrible, nobody should do that. But if you make a joke like ‘jump in a lake’ or ‘put a sock in it,’ or ‘take a long walk on a short pier,’ I mean that is what people say.

“No. I wanted the situation fixed. And that’s what I was used to. Everything getting fixed,” said Barnett. “I do a lot of things like say things like, I wish somebody would take a long walk on a short pier…I might have said, I wish he’d dropped dead if I wasn’t angry about something. I can’t deny saying that.”
