"Take (something) on the nose" = Chấp nhận và chịu đựng ảnh hưởng xấu của sự thất bại, khó khăn và thua cuộc.

Ví dụ
When we can take it on the nose, it's a lot easier than when it comes at us from the side, it can get difficult.

But despite the pressures on the actors, it's their directors who really take it on the nose when the films disappoint in any way.

That seems clear enough, but something disturbs (làm lo âu) me about all this. I guess companies and farmers have to take it on the nose if they transgress (vượt quá giới hạn, phạm tội), because the council's process allows plenty of discretion (tự ý định đoạt) and time to get into line; but one council prosecuting another seems daft to me. All that happens is the same ratepayers must shell out to enrich lawyers and the TRC.
