"Take the bark off (someone or something)" = Lột vỏ hoặc da ai/cái gì -> Quất bằng roi hoặc trừng phạt; làm giảm giá trị của cái gì; làm giảm vẻ đẹp của cái gì.

Ví dụ
He promised to "take the bark" off Democratic nominee Michael Dukakis of Massachusetts, and Atwater was as good as his word.

“People were asking about the crime scene, and what he did to the boys,” Davis said. “Whoever it was didn’t take the bark off it at all. He told us exactly what had happened. It was like, geez (ông già, bà già).”

In any case, the decision by CBS suits to reprise Candice Bergen’s golden oldie sitcom, “Murphy Brown,” was predictable, if redundant. Did we really need another show devoted to Trump-bashing? Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Trevor Noah, and John Oliver aren’t enough? Even as CNN, the New York Times, and the Washington Post take the bark off the White House on a daily basis?
