"Take the fifth" nghĩa là gì?

"Take/plead the fifth (amendment)" = Từ chối cung cấp thông tin tự buộc tội hoặc làm nhục mình. Đề cập đến Tu chính án số 5 của Hiến pháp Mỹ, trong đó tuyên bố rằng không có công dân nào bị bắt buộc tự đưa ra bằng chứng buộc tội mình.
Ví dụ
When asked by Jackson if he knew it was a crime to delete messages, the accuser said he was not previously aware of that. The man then took the Fifth Amendment.
They're subpoenaed, they should all take the Fifth, because this is a perjury (lời khai man trước toà) trap. This is not a legitimate investigation, it is a fishing expedition.
Graham at first said that Trump Jr. should refuse even to appear before the Intelligence Committee. At least he later amended (sửa đổi) his advice. Now he says he meant the presidential son should comply technically with the subpoena (đòi ra hầu tòa) by showing up at an Intelligence Committee hearing, but then refuse to answer any question by pleading the Fifth Amendment.
