"Live in (someone's) head rent-free" = sống nhờ trong đầu ai không tốn phí-> cụm từ này nghĩa là nguồn ác cảm hoặc bực tức của một người đến mức liên tục tạo ra suy nghĩ kích động trong họ; tác động tiêu cực đến một người mà không có bất kỳ lời trách móc nào.

Ví dụ
Don’t limit yourself by believing that other people control the way you live. Maybe there are people in your life who frustrate you but you choose your reaction. My mother A”H would always say, “Don’t allow people to live in your head rent free.”

It is always about that former partner to whom you want to prove that you are lovable, or that you have moved on. And when you do this, you are still letting that ex live in your head rent-free. You should not be in a relationship to prove a point to your ex. To do this is just disrespectful (không tôn trọng), unfair and emotionally abusive (lừa dối) to the new person.

Showing off or spending above your ability just to impress your neighbors instead of focusing on your needs, is simply foolishness. Why show for praise when you can sow for a raise? Your neighbor may not be alive tomorrow to see your new Mercedes Benz that you bought to impress even when you know that you can’t afford it. Stop letting people live in your head RENT-FREE and get your money game straight.
