"Lust for power" có từ lust là sự thèm khát, lòng tham -> cụm từ này nghĩa là khát khao mãnh liệt, tham lam muốn giành được quyền lực hoặc quyền kiểm soát; sự thèm khát quyền lực.

Ví dụ
Princess Leia, played by the late Carrie Fisher, was one of the truly good people in a universe in which it's easier to join the dark side out of fear and a lust for power than to join the light side.

Upon splitting from the urSkeks to become the living embodiment of their dark and violent natures, the Skeksis set about amassing (tích lũy) as much power as they could over the world of Thra and it's inhabitants. That same lust for power quickly evolved into a desperate push for survival.

In a recent Twitter exchange, the tweeter summarized the issue with admirable (and rare) clarity: “a dollar is a unit of entitlement, an authorization to obtain resources, goods, and services.” In other words, the person with the dollar does not simply have something to use in exchange with others. Money is a means to command others to give up their goods, the ultimate expression of power. Money releases our savage lust for power and innate desire to cause harm to one another.
