"Put (one's) head in a noose" = Đưa đầu vào thòng lọng -> Tự phá hủy kế hoạch/tiến trình bởi hành động dại dột của mình; tự đưa mình vào thế bế tắc.

Ví dụ
Jones warned Ms Berejiklian the decision not to cancel the mining giant’s licence entirely meant she had “put her head in a noose” which would be tightened when the “truckies and farmers start”.

Having previously claimed that United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward had been figuring out a way to oust him for five months and suggested that "United put my head in a noose", Van Gaal is not exactly the biggest fan of the Red Devils nowadays.

“I felt like I put my head in a noose,” he tells me now of the big night. “I’ve had my head in a noose for a while but this was really like tightening. There’s no turning back. Critics would destroy you. But I thought, ‘What I am really risking here? A bit of embarrassment, humiliation?’ But I can deal with that.”
