"Put (one) on (one's) honor" = Buộc ai phải thề danh dự -> Buộc ai phải làm/nói một cách trung thực, đúng như lời đã hứa và không gian dối.

Ví dụ
"Very well," said Miss Meadows. And she called to the girls, "I shall put you on your honour to talk quietly while I am away." But they were too subdued to do anything else. Most of them were blowing their noses.

Gandhi: “I like the idea of putting the mettle of caste Hindus on trial. But the referendum should be taken immediately, say in one year, and if that was unsuitable, then in five years. If once I could infect you with my terrible sincerity, I say put us on our honour.”

Gone are the days when we used to stand in the dust to recite the Ghana National Pledge, "I promise on my honour, to be faithful and loyal to Ghana my motherland…" There were those who struggled to get every line right. There were those who formulated their own words to fill in the spaces that they could not remember. There were those who occasionally slapped houseflies (ruồi nhà musca domestica) from their sores. It was a mixture of enthusiasm, seriousness and nationalism in those days.
