"Put out of misery" nghĩa là gì?

"Put (one) out of (one's) misery" = Thoát khỏi cảnh túng quẫn -> Giết ai/kết liễu bản thân để thoát khỏi nghèo khổ/sự đau đớn; chấm dứt/giải tỏa sự tò mò hoặc sự nghi ngờ.

Ví dụ
3:28 p.m.: Investigated a report about someone making 50 calls to a business and telling them he was going to send a bomb “to put you out of your misery.” Police spoke with the caller, determined it wasn’t a credible threat and took a report about criminal threatening.

So anyway, I’ll put you out of your misery, or rather dump you straight in it... if you hadn’t already guessed, coming up is Blue Monday, the third Monday of the year – a day that in 2005 a certain Dr Cliff Arnall (who? Exactly!) calculated to be the most depressing day of the year. He did it using the following formula.

Dr. M quickly put me out of my misery. “Tracy, how are you structuring your presentations?” My terror rapidly peaked. She waved aside my jumbled answer. “Start with the subjective and the patient’s history. Then vitals, exam, labs, imaging. Your assessment and plan. When you do it the same way every time, you’re less likely to forget anything. Okay? Now start over.” That day, postpartum (hậu sản) rounds must have taken three times as long as it usually did, but by the end, I was presenting the same way every time.
