Ms. Stephanie Binotto had a Letter to the Editor published on Saturday, February 15, 2020. In the letter, she addressed the fact that City Council, especially Mr. Evan Clark, feels put upon by the citizens speaking up to defend the Fire Chief and his department. How sad that the Fire Chief has to defend his department. City Council refuses to even have input from the chief.

His barrister Keith Harrison said that in that case Bell had been 'put upon by others'. Mr Harrison said that Bell's offending was a 'one off' and that he hadn't actually been selling drugs. He said that Bell had suffered from depression and turned to drugs following the 'loss of a child in a fire'. Bell is currently drug free and has been taking steps to address his addiction problem, the court was told. Sentencing, Judge Cross jailed Bell for 18 months, saying that cocaine and heroin are drugs that 'wreck lives'.

It may well be that the Ministry of Education feels put upon by the proverbial holding of its feet to the fire in the wake of these incidents. That is its own fault since in none of the instances referred to so far has it attempted to proffer a clear and authoritative response. It has persisted with its customary line of prevarication (sự lảng tránh, quanh co), and empty promises. Never once has it provided the public with a full report on the outcomes of the various recent in-school incidents which have ranged from drug use, some of it on school premises to parent-on-teacher violence. Always, its responses have hovered between vagueness (lơ đãng, vô tâm) and silence.
