"Put your oar in" nghĩa là gì?

"Put (one's) oar in" = Cứ thích can thiệp/xía mũi vào chuyện người khác; tự nói ý kiến của mình trong khi người ta không hỏi.
Ví dụ
Obama's decision to put his oar in four years ago, whether from a place of friendship or manipulation (sự vận động, thao túng) on Clinton's behalf, extended to telling Biden not to get out over his skis.
“The expectation in Quebec is that the prime minister should have put his oar in. He should have said this is a great company with a proud history in Montreal. You guys are pushing it too much. Let’s be more like the Americans and the Brits and be a little bit less silly about it.”
So I'm not arguing against Confederation, or for it. You work with what you've got, and this one turned out reasonably well. But it's an ongoing project, whatever you make of the myths about its origin. You can't control the past. You can't control the present either but at least that's where you get to put your oar in. The point isn't to celebrate Confederation, so much as to explore and develop its possibilities.
