Ví dụ
Like Uncle Bob, Ruby was stolen from her family. She was officially 11 when this happened, although in May 1940, a medical officer called PJ Reilly at Alice Springs Hospital cast doubt on her recorded age when he requested Darwin’s Director of Native Affairs “set her down as 15” so she could be legally released from school at the “Half-Caste Institution” and employed in his private home as a servant.

According to Kate Devlin, a writer for Trowelblazers.com, Harvard anthropologist Alfred Tozzer once said, “You look at Miss Breton and set her down as a weak, frail (dễ vỡ) and delicate (mỏng manh) person who goes into convulsions (sự rối loạn, chấn động) at the sight of the slightest unconventionality in the way of living. But I assure you, her appearance is utterly at variance with her real self.”

As he looked across the busy levee, McGarry told the reporter, “If I were to tell a foreigner of the trip I am going to take on the Helena tonight, he might not say anything, but he would mentally set me down as a most consummate (tột bậc, tài giỏi) and colossal (to lớn) liar. An Englishman, with his idea of space and distance formed by a contemplation of the size of his own country, would simply and firmly decline to believe in the existence of a river upwards of 3,000 miles in length and as for telling him that it was navigable for upwards of 2,700 miles, and that a craft like the Helena would make the trip, it would only increase his admiration of your powers of fabrication (sự thêu dệt, bịa đặt).”
