“Get a quart into a pint pot” = (cố gắng) lấy thúng úp voi -> Cố gắng làm điều không thể, đặc biệt khi cố nhét nhiều thứ vào một thùng chứa/không gian quá nhỏ.

Ví dụ
He said: “I visited the library and was shocked and horrified by what I saw. “The council has tried to get a quart into a pint pot, there’s a total lack of space. “The computer section is right next to the books, and there’s not enough room for people to pass in the aisles. I have never seen anything so badly planned.

Dai Greene, Britain’s 2011 world 400m hurdles champion, tweeted: "There's no such thing as a boring event, it's how you present it to the public that's the problem." Greece’s Olympic and two-time Diamond League champion pole vaulter Katerina Stefanidi also tweeted about the need to improve the way events are televised, adding: "It is the number one complaint I hear from fans after every Diamond League and IAAF Championship. Maybe we should look into this." Certainly the complaints regarding field events are familiar; they often appear to pepper (rắc thêm) the main action rather than being it. But once again we are talking about trying to get a quart into a pint pot.

In my last piece, I wrote about the importance of a Nigerian Revolution as the panacea (thuốc bách bệnh; thuốc chữa mọi bệnh tật) to our nearly fifty-nine years sojourn (tạm trú) in the doldrums (trạng thái buồn nản, trạng thái chán nản). It may seem like an attempt to get a quart into a pint pot, but I dare say nothing can stop an idea whose time has come. The conspiracy (âm mưu) against Nigeria’s progress is simply elitist (người quý tộc, tinh hoa), and the solution to Nigeria’s problems lies with the masses. Both in recorded and contemporary history, we have seen that when leaders fail to deliver on their mandate, as has been the case in Nigeria since the first republic, a radical expression of the people’s disaffection through civil disobedience and other means possible becomes inevitable.
