"That song is one of the most important ones on the album," Lotterud says. "It's a really fragile song, even though the lyric 'Lately I've been leaning on myself' might sound powerful. It's a song I needed to hear at that point in my life, to help me get my stuff together. It's not the end of the world if someone breaks up with you."

“I told (longtime Bolles assistant) Mike Barrett and Wayne Belger, 'You guys are a humongous (to, bự) reason why we (Raines) had success. Ali had Frazier. Bird had Magic," Wiley said. "I thought putting Bolles in the district years ago had some malice of intent. But you know, hindsight 20/20, it was the best thing that could have happened to my staff. Because those guys made you prepare, compete and get your stuff together, or else.”

Mosley disagreed, citing Californian culture as the reason. “If you’re from anywhere else, you got to get your stuff together very quickly,” he started, but said that in California, no matter your age, if you could still touch your toes, you might think “I’d like to study ballet.” It was that sort of thinking that spurred Mosley to think “Maybe I should be a novelist,” and even then he didn’t expect to write a short story, let alone be published to start with.
