"If it was a snake it woulda bit you" = nếu như nó là con rắn thì đã cắn mày rồi -> chỉ một cái gì gần ngay bên cạnh mình.
Ví dụ
If you couldn't find the pitcher of cream (hũ đựng kem) sitting right smack in front of you, she said, “If it were a snake, it woulda bit you.” Or “None so blind as those that refuse to see.”
At which point my mother would casually walk over to the refrigerator (tủ lạnh) and remove his lunch bag, which was, of course, right in front of him the whole time, saying as she did it, “If it was a snake it would have bit you!" Big laugh from me.
She was so adamant (kỷ cương) about where things were kept that I could never find anything in my own home after she had put things away. When I would inquire (dò hỏi) about the whereabouts of a particular object, she would often say, “Kim Boone, if it was a snake, it woulda bit cha!" I remember her using that phrase even when she babysat me as a young girl.
