"Be more sinned against than sinning/sinner" = bị đổ tội nhiều hơn là phạm tội -> nghĩa là đáng thương hơn là đáng trách.

Ví dụ
Stirling MP Mr Smith said his partner had sometimes been "undiplomatic" (không đúng thủ tục ngoại giao) in defence (bảo vệ) of party policy but he was "more sinned against than sinning" on social media.

Ultimately (sau cùng) that’s going to be to Renault’s advantage – unless the only people they’re racing are each other. Both have previous when it comes to fratricidal (giết anh em) road rage (chứng điên đường) (though both will claim they are more sinned-against than sinning) and neither is in a position to settle for second-best this year.

In one way or another, his publicised controversial (gây tranh cãi) visit to Kaduna recently had to do with Joda who couldn’t fulfill (thực hiện) his obligation (nghĩa vụ) as the Chancellor of Bells University on account of (vì lý do) acute ill-health (bệnh cấp tính). I extracted (trích dẫn) the Joda quote from a long extenuating missive (thư xin giảm nhẹ tội) on how the Fulani in Nigeria are more sinned against than sinning.
