"Play the wag" nghĩa là gì?

"Play (the) wag" = Ngoảnh đi, quay đi hoặc thoảng qua -> Tự vắng mặt hoặc rời đi sớm hơn so với thời gian quy định, như đi làm về/tan trường sớm hơn mấy bạn khác (trốn học).

Ví dụ
"Do you think what he's trying to do is get the liberals all mad, to get the Iranians really upset, because he's trying to play wag here?

I think no one came closer to the solution than Weekley. He did not say anything about the second half of the word, but here I have a suggestion. Scalawag may be scal-a-wag, a formation like rag-a-muffin and cock-a-doodle-doo, a compound with -a- in the middle. Wag “a mischievous person” (originally “a mischievous boy”!) is a noun in its own right; to play the wag is slang for “play the truant (trốn học, trốn tiết).” If it could be shown that scall had sufficient currency in American English (in western New York or elsewhere), a scalawag would emerge as a scabby wag, whereas diminutive horses, predial slaves (người nô lệ gắn chặt với ruộng đất), criminals wearing bells like the lepers (người hủi, người bị bệnh phong) of old, scavengers (công nhân quét đường), and their daughters will stay where they belong: in Shetlands, Hebrides, Switzerland, and France. Good riddance (sự tống khứ, sự trừ khử) if you ask me.
