Sino-African Architecture; A Look at the Rise of Chinese-Built Projects Across the African Continent
An espionage investigation (điều tra gián điệp/tình báo) published in French newspaper Le Monde—later confirmed (xác nhận/khẳng định) by the Financial Times—accused (buộc tội, kết án) China of inserting a “backdoor” (cửa hậu) in the HQ’s computer system (hệ thống máy tính) which enabled the transfer of confidential data (dữ liệu tối mật) back to servers in China. The reports suggest that in 2017 a technician noticed a peak in data usage between midnight and 2am each night despite the building being vacant (trống, vắng). It was suggested that data was being copied to servers in Shanghai, an allegation the Chinese ambassador (đại sứ) firmly denied (bác bỏ, chối cãi). Following the discovery (khám phá, phát hiện), security experts (chuyên gia an ninh) swept the building and reportedly discovered microphones concealed (giấu) in the desks and walls.
