"Keep your shop and your shop will keep you" nghĩa là nếu bạn cố gắng làm việc (điều hành doanh nghiệp...) thì doanh nghiệp của bạn sẽ có đủ lợi nhuận để hỗ trợ bạn, nói cách khác bỏ ra nhiều công sức sẽ nhận được kết quả tốt.

Ví dụ
Keep your shop well and then your shop will keep you. For it sometimes happens that the eye of a master will do more work than both his hands, and more especially if his head be any reasonable (hợp lý) length.

I would earnestly recommend this adage (ngạn ngữ) to every mechanic (thợ máy) in London, “ Keep your shop, and your shop will keep you." A strict observance (tuân theo) of these words will, I am sure, in time, gain them estates (tài sản).

However, let this be as it may, it would suit these gentlemen much better to put in practice that plain maxim (châm ngôn đơn giản), by which their ancestors (tổ tiên) grew rich, keep your shop, and your shop will keep you, than to rail at the times.

Sir William Turner, that valuable citizen, has left behind him a most excellent rule, and couched (diễn đạt) it in a very few words, suited to the meanest capacity (năng lực kém cỏi nhất). He would say, “Keep your shop, and your shop will keep you .”
