"Three strikes and you are out" nghĩa là gì?

"Three strikes and you're out" = ba cú đánh và bạn thua -> quá tam ba bận, vượt quá ba sai lầm/ vi phạm/ phạm tội sẽ bị phạt nặng hoặc bị loại. Trong bóng chày, "strike out" là khi vận động viên đánh hụt bóng 3 lần, dẫn đến thua bàn.

Ví dụ
There is a three strikes and you're out policy (chính sách); so don't get more than three wrong answers.

Research (nghiên cứu) and nearly half a century of precedent (tiền lệ) have widely disproven (bác bỏ) the value of three-strikes-and-you’re-out, but change may be too slow in coming for Lester Mason.

It will help you to like it, I think, if you are a dyed-in-the-wool (không thay đổi) Washington baseball fan. It will help especially if you are not a Yankees fan. It will help if you know the game from having played it. But if none of that describes you, well, sorry: Three strikes, you’re out. Hey, it’s OK: There’s always tomorrow.

Thus, for some time I have been hearing the umpire (trọng tài) calling “3 Strikes, You’re Out” in terms of a recession (suy thoái). These are the underlying causes (nguyên nhân căn bản), but there was also an immediate excuse (biện hộ) that ignited (châm ngòi) the problem, much like the assassination (ám sát) of Archduke being the excuse for WWI.
