"You'll be sorry you asked" nghĩa là gì?

Nghĩ kỹ trước khi hỏi nha. Photo by cottonbro from Pexels

"You'll/might be sorry you asked" = bạn sẽ thấy hối hận vì đã hỏi -> nghĩa là câu trả lời sẽ không như mong muốn.

Ví dụ
“Yes, I know and Zane...maybe the next time you come over, I'll feel more like playing the piano. If you bring your violin, we could do a duet.” Zane gave a half laugh. “You might be sorry you asked, but I look forward to your invitation (lời mời)."

Alex: "I've seen The Godfather II like everyone else, but aside from that the whole era is before my time. I assume (cho rằng) we have files."
Mike: "Tons of them. You'll be sorry you asked. You might need a special access (quyền truy cập) with a cosgined (ủy thác) request form to see the top stuff. But I can get it for you if you interested."

Eventually a particular drawing technique (kỹ thuật) takes so little thought that is you asked an artirst "how" he did a certain passage, he probably wouldn't remember. But if you asked him "why", he'd eagerly (háo hức) and most vociferously (om sòm) tell you. In fact, you might be sorry you asked! I'll continue to explain the "why's" as the need arises (phát sinh), but I'd like you to concentrate (tập trung) now on "how" to draw.
