"One step at a time" = từng bước một -> nghĩa là chậm rãi, từ từ và cẩn thận.

Ví dụ
Speaking to THE WEEK about the resumption of outdoor training activities, Chopra said the focus is on taking one step at a time and ensuring all protocols (lễ tân, nghi thức ngoại giao) for safety and health were followed.

"I believe to truly get behind the concept of Black Lives Matter is to use our voices on social media and elsewhere to amplify the voices of Black people, then translate it into tangible (rõ ràng, xác thực) support that can make a difference for individuals one step at a time."

This is my first pandemic that I know of in my lifetime. I’m told that the last one of this magnitude (tầm lớn, tầm quan trọng) was in 1918 with the Spanish Flu. With that understanding I have no experience of being a father, husband, pastor and provider for my family during a pandemic. I’m not sure whether anyone’s written a guidebook for dummies (người nộm) on how to be all these things during a pandemic, but I have not seen it or read it. I am having to figure things out one day at a time and one step at a time.
