Ví dụ
I woke up this morning, feeling a bit down. I’m usually an upbeat (lạc quan) person, but I suppose the past few months have taken a toll (tổn thất). My first thought was: What in the dickens has happened to our wonderful country? I remember, not so long ago, the days when most of us were proud to be Americans —– and, I’m glad to say, I still am.

I guess it’s one more sign that I’m old and out of touch that when I got the mail this past week and found a debit (ghi nợ) card from the federal government, my first thought was, “What in the dickens am I supposed to do with this?”

“I thought, ‘What in the dickens is that?’ ” he said in his video account. He went out on the deck, “looked up and saw this plane dipping . . . and it had red balls on its wings,” he said. “I said a cuss (chửi rủa) word and said, ‘The Japanese are here,’ ” he remembered.
