"Be (one's) own worst enemy" = trở thành kẻ thù tồi tệ nhất của chính mình -> nghĩa là tự chuốc họa vào thân, gây rắc rối cho cuộc sống của ai.

Ví dụ
I've spent a lifetime reminding myself that I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to what I come to expect, based on what already has happened, along with the expectations I inadvertently (vô tình) set for others.

Jailing Hall for ten months, Judge Bernadette Baxter told Hall: "The whole situation must have been very frightening for anybody coming upon it. The reality of the situation is that you are your own worst enemy."

Super Netball has been its own worst enemy with the unlimited import rule hurting the Diamonds internationally. It's what we thought would help hone his craft and push the teen to greatness. However, Season 3 throws this notion to the wind when an unexpected love triangle turns Baki into his own worst enemy, robbing him of his compassion (lòng trắc ẩn) and seemingly, his humanity.
