Chinese authorities are carrying out forced sterilisations (sự khử trùng, sự làm tiệt trùng; sự làm cho cằn cỗi; sự làm mất khả năng sinh đẻ, sự triệt sản, sự làm vô sinh) of women in an apparent campaign (chiến dịch rõ ràng) to curb (buộc dây cằm (vào ngựa); điều khiển (ngựa) bằng dây cằm; kiềm chế, nén lại; hạn chế) the growth of ethnic minority (dân tộc thiểu số) populations in the western Xinjiang region, according to research published on Monday.
The report, based on a combination (kết hợp) of official regional data, policy documents and interviews with ethnic minority women, has prompted an international group of lawmakers to call for a United Nations investigation (điều tra) into China’s policies in the region.
The move is likely to enrage Beijing, which has denied trampling (giẫm đạp, chà đạp) on the rights (nhân quyền) of ethnic groups in Xinjiang, and which on Monday called the allegations (lời cáo buộc) “baseless” (vô căn cứ, không có cơ sở).
