But Macron also warned (cảnh báo) that Lebanon – already mired (vấy bùn, nhận vào bùn; đẩy vào hoàn cảnh khó khăn) in a deep economic crisis (khủng hoảng kinh tế nặng nề), in desperate (tuyệt vọng) need of a bailout (cứu trợ) and torn (bị giằng xé bởi) by political turmoil (hỗn loạn chính trị) – would "continue to sink" unless it implements urgent reforms.

Macron visited Beirut's harbourside blast zone, now a wasteland of blackened ruins, rubble and charred (đốt thành than, hoá thành than) debris (mảnh vỡ, mảnh vụn; vôi gạch đổ nát) where a 140 metre (460 feet) wide crater has filled with sea water.

Later, as he toured one of the hardest-hit neighborhoods, an angry crowd (đám đông tức giận) vented  (làm cho hả (giận), trút (tâm sự, nỗi niềm..)) its fury (cuồng nộ) at Lebanon's political leaders, chanting “Revolution” (cách mạng) and “The people want to bring down the regime," slogans used during mass protests (biểu tình) last year.

Macron said he was not there to endorse the “regime” and vowed that French aid would not fall into the “hands of corruption".
