"Have a narrow escape/squeak" = thoát trong gang tấc -> nghĩa là suýt nữa thì bị tóm, may mà thoát được.

Ví dụ
In this journey I had a narrow escape of being taken prisoner.

Commuters and workers had a narrow escape at NH 29 after another rockslide (lở đá) occurred at the ongoing Dimapur-Kohima 4-lane construction site in the Chümoukedima stretch on September 15 evening.

Meade had a narrow escape during the resulting Battle of Peebles Farm, an unsuccessful attempt to extend the Union line farther west and sever the vital supply lines of the Boydton Plank Road and the South Side Railroad.

Many of the officers and men had narrow escapes, and it is surprising that no more of them were wounded, killed or drowned. At the commencement (bắt đầu) of the fight the officers sent their horses over the river and stood their chances of escape equally with the privates.
