"Present company excluded" nghĩa là gì?


"Present company excluded" = không nói những người ngồi đây -> dùng khi ai đó, trong cuộc nói chuyện, khái quát hóa mang tính tiêu cực về một nhóm người xác định (dân tộc, tôn giáo, v.v...) và biết có người thuộc nhóm đó có mặt.

Ví dụ
Do not trust movie critics (chỉ trích)! Well, present company excluded. Currently, the bozos on Rotten Tomatoes have this movie at 91%, and it’s probably going to end up on my worst of the year list.

Photos of his palatial (nguy nga) farmhouse with a swimming pool and posh vehicles are now out in the public domain. The controversial Maulana Saad (54) is known for his plush lifestyle, never mind what he preaches (giảng đạo) his followers (perhaps his sermons (bài thuyết giáo) come with a present-company-excluded clause). 

As neither no longer require any talent, academia and the media (present company excluded) are the contemporary (đương thời) lairs (hang ổ) of activism. Take no notice.

In April, the Tigers lost two of three games to Missouri, who didn’t even make the NCAA baseball tournament, along with Texas. The pitching staff was beset (bủa vây) with injuries. The overwhelming narrative was It just wasn't going to happen for the Tigers.  LSU fans and media members (present company excluded) were ready to read the Tigers their last rights, prepare the eulogy (khen ngợi).
