Henry was born and raised in Ballyhack, Ireland. As a teenager, he left home for London where he went on to join the merchant (nhà buôn) navy which took him all over the world. Tyrone said: “My dad eventually met my mom Joan and decided to swallow the anchor and come ashore.”

He's survived three cat-nappings and 16 winters on board CSS Acadia, but now Erik the Red is set to swallow the anchor. Erik has served as rodent (chuột, loài gặm nhấm) control officer on the ship since 1998. It was a job he picked for himself when he was a stray kitten (mèo hoang), wandering the waterfront. "He came aboard as a stowaway (đi tàu lậu vé)," said Steven Read, shipkeeper for CSS Acadia.

My career for the foreseeable future will be at sea, I want to achieve the highest level of qualifications, which would be a Master Mariner. If I could do most of my time under sail on ships such as Picton Castle, I would be thrilled (rùng mình). But, I’m also open to trying commercial shipping or yachting. That’s one of the great things about a career in the Maritime world, there is such a variety of ships to sail. I’m well aware of the grueling (gian khổ) commitment (cam kết) that this life brings, so I’d forgive myself if I decided to “swallow the anchor” – aka lead a shore life. At the moment, though, I’m enjoying this path immensely.
