"Shank of the evening" -> nghĩa là lúc sầm tối, chạng vạng, buổi xế chiều.

Ví dụ
Southern always stayed too late at the party, chiding (mắng mỏ) one friend for having “sent me packing so often at the very shank of the evening.” He was exhausting in other ways. A typical performance was a 1980 letter to the novelist and Zen master Peter Matthiessen, which reads right up top: “Wow-ee! Bro-ther! Boy-oh-boy! Holy Mack!” You imagine Matthiessen mailing him back a sachet (túi) of decaffeinated (không caffein) tea.

I have often said that I never thought back when I was covering the brutal (thảm khốc) battles of the Civil Rights Movement that I would live to see an African-American president. But at least in the shank of the evening over an adult beverage (đồ uống) or two that was something we would speculate (nghiên cứu) about. What no one ever thought to even discuss was whether we would have legalized (hợp pháp hóa) gay marriage anywhere, let alone (nữa là) now in all 50 states.

Beer belongs to the end of the day. It begins to be good as the sun goes down, and it goes on increasing in virtue (hiệu quả) until the sandman makes his rounds. It is the perfect drink for the shank of the evening, when one would be unwise to eat the solid victuals (đồ ăn) that go with wine.
