"Figure of speech" nghĩa là gì?

"Figure of speech" -> nghĩa là dùng từ khác nghĩa thông thường, nói khoa trương, đao to búa lớn.

Ví dụ
The authors treat character as an essential muscle group that can be strengthened with targeted exercise. It’s more than a figure of speech. Just as the physical body can get flabby (mềm dẻo), so can a person’s ability (or at least willingness) to make honest decisions.

We have to resist the urge to deflect (làm lệch hướng) from this, to insist that it’s not just white people, to shout that it’s really the other side, to claim that it’s serious when they do it but just a figure of speech when we do it. That way of thinking is intellectually dishonest and morally bankrupt.

I wonder why my sister and so many others self-soothe (tự làm mình vui) with sweets, while the rest of us seek solace (an ủi) in other foods. Is a “sweet tooth” just a figure of speech, or does it have a biological basis? Is a sweet tooth actually a thing?

Sadly, we live in an imperfect world — one in which “pants on fire” is merely a figure of speech, not what happens when your half-undressed boyfriend says (with a totally straight face): “Amber and I were just about to have a work meeting.” You: “In our bed?”
