“Miss (something) by a mile” -> nghĩa là 'sai một ly đi một dặm'.

Ví dụ
"I had to come back to, 'I've done everything I can. This is my moment.' This is supposed to be fun. I'm just going to let it fly. And if I'm going to miss, I'm going to miss by a mile. I'm not going to be afraid to miss. That was kind of my mindset … We worked too hard for me to miss that kick.

Last stay with that nonsense: I played horribly the last time out. I was missing shot after shot. An encouraging playing-partner tried to cheer me up. “Think positive about your next round.”
“Come on,” he continued, “what are you gonna shoot next?!”
“My swing coach?!” I joked.
“He's safe. You'll miss by a mile.”
So much for the encouragement.

"We've been less assertive (quả quyết, khẳng định) by the young nature of those players," he said. "The more veteran you are, the more willing you are to make mistakes. The younger you are, the more you want to hold onto your job. But you can lose your job by holding onto your job. We want them to get aggressive. You can miss by a mile, but [that's okay if] you were trying to do something dangerous. That was the message this week: get more assertive and get more aggressive."
