"Make your position clear" nghĩa là gì?

"Make (one's) position clear" nghĩa là làm rõ quan điểm.

Ví dụ
This is an opportunity to develop a rationale (cơ sở lý luận) and make your position clear to others.

The debate over the grounds for historical knowledge gave Dewey even greater opportunity to make his position clear.

And perhaps he could make his position clear, he thought. Persuade her that their marriage could be dissolved (hủy bỏ) with honor, could leave her unharmed, once he escorted (hộ tống) her home to the safety of her family.

Carl Schurz, another Lincoln ally (đồng minh) with strong ties to the radicals (người cấp tiến), warned the president in May of 1862 that he was not making his position clear to the most ardently (hăng hái) anti-slavery Republican voters in the North.

"In/within scoring position" = ở vị trí ghi bàn -> nghĩa là ở vị trí, khoảng cách có thể ghi điểm trong thi đấu thể thao hoặc ở vị trí có thể đạt được thành công trong công việc.

Ví dụ
Simply said, the coach is willing to give up an out to put the runner in scoring position.

That seemed especially true when he was facing the pressure of a good hitter with runners in scoring position.

So instead of having two outs and the bases clear, Hershiser had to face dangerous hitter Darryl Strawberry with one out and a runner in scoring position.

If so, take advantage of it, and put two runners in scoring position by stealing. A great play to utilize (tận dụng) in this situation is a suicide squeeze. This seems to surprise most teams.

"Assume the position" nghĩa là gì?

"Assume the position" hoặc" assume a given position" nghĩa là đảm nhận vị trí được giao hoặc thực thi mệnh lệnh theo luật khi bị bắt giữ là phải quay lưng lại phía cảnh sát và bị còng tay.

Ví dụ
If a youngest sibling has been lost, the second-youngest sibling or the next-youngest of the same sex is most likely to assume the position of the youngest, provided no additional children are born.

Psychodynamics (tâm lý động học) of Schizophrenia' (bệnh tâm thần phân liệt) Marcel Proust said that truth is just a point of view, and we could add that to have a point of view, we must have a body and assume a certain position.

The more nearly you can assume the position which is sometimes criticized (chỉ trích) by the sarcastic (mỉa mai) statement that "He looks as though he had swallowed a poker," the more nearly you will approximate (gần) the ideal position.

Including Surgeon General (Tổng Y sĩ) Satcher, 16 persons have occupied the Office of Surgeon General since John Woodworth assumed the position in 1871. Most of the Surgeons General have been men. The first woman to assume the position Surgeon General Novello, who served from 1990 through 1993.

"Rule in favor of" nghĩa là gì?

Hội những người đầy quyền lực. Photo by On Being

"Rule in favor of (someone or something)" (tòa án, luật pháp) nghĩa là đưa ra phán quyết chính thức ủng hộ/ chấp thuận ai/điều gì.

Ví dụ
If I rule in favor of one of you, awarding him some of the property (tài sản) that rightfully belongs to his brother, let him not take it.

The lower federal courts seldom rule in favor of civil liberties (tự do dân sự) claims (37.9% for the district courts and 37.8% for the appeals courts (tòa phúc thẩm)).

A court that ruled in favor of George W . Bush was a court deserving of compliance (tuân thủ) and respect; a court that ruled otherwise was a treasonous (mưu phản) court, renegade (phản bội) and corrupt.

Thus though this discussion rejects Hart's account of social rules in favor of an account distinct in every particular, it remains quite close to Hart's sense of social rules and, if correct, goes some way to confirm it.

"Slant in favor of (someone or something)" nghĩa là nghiêng về một phía, thể hiện sự ủng hộ, thiên vị. "Slant (something or someone) in favor of" nghĩa là viết ra, thể hiện ra sự thiên vị, ủng hộ.

Ví dụ
He would have been less than human had he not slanted his book in favor of his kinsmen (bà con) as a natural reaction to the opposite slant of Mercer's book.

The intriguing (hấp dẫn) and troubling question is: Does the size of the fee incline even a lawyer of high reputation to color or slant his opinion in favor of the action that he knows management and/or the board favors?

A Conservative View (quan điểm bảo thủ) of the Media Conservatives believe the mass media, predominantly (phần lớn) television news programs, slant reports in favor of the liberal position (quan điểm tự do) on issues.

Did I believe what had happened last night? Did it make any difference if I did? Especially since no one else believed me and there was no proof (bằng chứng)? As a writer you slant all evidence in favor of the conclusions you want to produce and you rarely tilt (nghiêng về) in favor of the truth.

"The odds stacked in (someone's or something's) favor" hoặc "the odds are stacked in favor of (someone or something)" nghĩa là ai/điều gì có cơ hội thành công cao vì được hưởng lợi thế hoặc thiên vị nhiều. "Odd" là tỷ lệ cá cược.

Ví dụ
As a result, the odds are stacked in favor of a reactive policy (chính sách phản ứng) for all but the most obvious threats.

The odds are stacked in your favour or not, for seeing two of them, I mean? Magpies. So I keep seeing “one for sorrow”, I'm completely screwed (say)? Or, what, the odds are against me anyway?

Better yet, let him fail. It's all about odds and percentages. You're from Vegas, you should have an appreciation of odds and percentages. The house always wins, right? Why? Because the odds are stacked in the house's favor. So?

The odds are stacked in favor of the advisor (cố vấn) in a “heads I win, tails you lose” way because the advisor makes money whether or not the client does. Meanwhile, my friend will be very busy overseeing three teams of advisors and trying to juggle their investment advice - a tough challenge indeed.

"The map is not the territory" nghĩa là gì?

Photo by: Timo Wielink on Unsplash

"The map is not the territory" = bản đồ chưa phải địa bàn đâu -> nghĩa là ai/cái gì hoàn toàn không như những gì người khác đánh giá.
Ví dụ
“The map is not the territory,” Sajith says. While founders usually launch companies out of a deep desire to correct some friction (xích mích), not many of them read the investor's thesis (luận án) and then decide. And that is what differentiates a successful founder like Gaurav Munjal of Unacademy from its competitors.

The Map Is Not the Territory. The map of reality is not reality. Even the best maps are imperfect. That’s because they are reductions (thu nhỏ) of what they represent (đại diện). If a map were to represent the territory with perfect fidelity, it would no longer be a reduction and thus would no longer be useful to us.

One final thought-bomb and a caution: Alfred Korzybski presented the idea that the “map is not the territory”. Put another way, “the description of the thing is not the thing itself … A map is an abstraction (cái nhìn trừu tượng) of reality and reduces (giảm thiểu) complexity of actual terrain to a simplified model which loses nuance and critical context.”

"Opt in favor of" nghĩa là gì?

"Opt in favor of (someone or something)" nghĩa là lựa chọn cái mình thích (hơn so với những thứ khác).

Ví dụ
However, they will not be allowed to vary their discounts across credit cards and opt in favor of MasterCard and against Visa.

2 percent of the 95 percent of the electorate (toàn bộ cử tri) who cast their ballots opted in favor of sovereignty (chủ quyền) and independence (độc lập).

If we opt in favor of buildings, the beaches will be lost— as, ultimately, will be the buildings. Relocation can be encouraged or implemented in many ways.

Others believe that their transnational (xuyên quốc gia) religions make better lifeboats, and if they had to choose between the welfare (phúc lợi) of their religion and the welfare of the nation of which they are citizens, they would unhesitatingly (không do dự) opt in favor of their religion.

"Find favor with" nghĩa là gì?

"Find favor/favour with (someone)" nghĩa là được ai chấp nhận, ủng hộ, quý mến.

Ví dụ
You write devotionals (sùng đạo), sing in the choir, and so many other things, trying to find favor with Me.

If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.

Growing in favor with God should have a corresponding (tương ứng) growth of favor with people. It is certain you will not find favor with all people, but you will find favor with those looking for God or those simply benefiting from your service.

Pulled from her comfort zone and thrust (xô đẩy) into a plush (xa hoa) but dangerous environment, she waged a wise war of worship (thờ phụng), ultimately “finding favor with the king!” You, too, can find favor with the King—preparing for your moment in His presence.

"Decide in favor of" nghĩa là gì?

Bởi vậy, hãy bỏ phiếu một cách thông thái. Photo by Artem Podrez from Pexels

"Decide in favor of (someone or something)" nghĩa là xác định bên thắng, theo phe thắng thế hoặc bênh vực cho ai/bên nào.

Ví dụ
The first premise (giả thuyết) appears to be uncontentious (không gây xung đột) if and only if “against the will of either party” is interpreted in the decision-for sense. The rough conditions on agreement (thỏa thuận) proposed earlier suggest that one who agrees must indeed decide in favor something, in the foregoing technical sense.

To say that the board (hội đồng) has authority (thẩm quyền) to decide that a cause is not within its Jurisdiction (quyền xét xử), and yet no authoriy to decide that a case is within its jurisdiction, appears to be a contradiction (mâu thuẫn) too glaring to be persisted in. That the commissioners (ủy viên) have a right to decide in favor of one party only - in favor of the party complained against , but not in favor if the complainant - can not be true.

In case of voting, individuals are not choosing simply for themselves. They do so for all. Therefore, the question voters have to decide is not merely which program is best for them and for their families. They must decide in favor of that which is best for the community as a whole, in favor of the program that might be expected to make the community economically successful, culturally flourishing and socially just, and so on. This is the vantage (lợi thế) point of the ethical model (mô hình đạo đức).

"Come out in favor of" nghĩa là gì?

Hãy lên tiếng vì mọi người và vì chính mình. Photo by Andrew McMurtrie from Pexels

"Come out in favor of (someone or something)" nghĩa là lên tiếng ủng hộ ai/ điều gì.

Ví dụ
Australian doctor has come out in favor of everyone's secret' pastime: nose-picking (ngoáy mũi).

The state chapters of the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association, as well as several other health groups, have come out in favor of the tax. They do not make campaign contributions (đóng góp).

If you come out in favor of the militias (lực lượng dân quân), you poison the message, and everybody thinks we're just another hate group. Another McVeigh. If you come out against them, then it looks like we're trying to distance ourselves from the association, like we've got something to hide.

Is your mind open or closed about the possibility that the Bible alone will make all things clear? Whatever you decide, I hope you feel that you can “come out” about your view on the Bible. In the hopes that you will come out in favor of it once more, allow me to share with you now the kind of love found within the Scriptures, a love that is hardly known, a love that you yourself may not entirely remember, a love that will be there for you as long as you breathe.

"Be out of favor with" nghĩa là gì?

"(Be/fall/go...) out of favor/favour (with someone)" nghĩa là không còn được yêu mến, ủng hộ, chấp thuận.

Ví dụ
Conversely, by omitting (bỏ quên) the name of a loved one, a patient specifically can block access (chặn quyền truy cập) to information by one or more family members who are currently out of favor with him.

In the early days of Utah, I was to learn anecdotally (giai thoại), third generation sons of pioneer families, especially those who were out of favor with Brother Brigham, left their shrinking (thu hẹp) homesteads to seek other opportunities.

Reading books won't instill (truyền dẫn) patience in investors, no matter how much they agree with the lessons laid out. Patience is essential to value investors because often they are investing in securities that are currently out of favor in the marketplace; often it takes many months before the market has a change of heart.

Knowing Nelson's value as an officer as well as Hood did, there can scarcely remain a doubt that some serious indiscretion (sơ suất), real or imagined, must have caused this alienation (xa lánh); but if what it was there is no trace, unless in his evident siding with the prince, who was then out of favor with both the King and the administration.

"Suited and booted" nghĩa là gì?

"Suited and booted" nghĩa là ăn mặc bảnh bao.

Ví dụ
Meline’s report has all the details on YOLO — including a rundown of the velvet rope partitions, which will be guarded by suited-and-booted bouncers strictly enforcing the club’s dress code.

Yet, obviously suited and booted to bring in more paying sets of eyeballs from the legions of Beyoncé fans, Black Is King is a mildly calculated risk for the Bob Iger chaired company as the streaming wars demand an expansion of corporate comfort zones.

In a rare foray into the big city recently, I stood open-mouthed in surprise and admiration as two people walked towards me on the pavement. One suited and booted, the other rocking a silky frock, beautifully coiffed and made up, they sashayed (đi khệnh khạng) past, trailing expensive scent and an air of purpose.

Being a science genius Hank devises a way to get Scott out of the house and suited up once more. However, this time he has a superhero companion in the guise of The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) and they team up to work together and who knows? Maybe even rekindle some old fires. But nothing is simple and we find out that a dubious supplier of lab equipment Sonny Burch (Walton Goggins, The Hateful Eight 2015 / Predators 2010) who Hope is dealing with, wants to secure their actual laboratory including the Quantum Tunnel and comes after Hank and Hope with his band of suited and booted Goons.

Vasanti is pregnant, but not with her own child – she is carrying a Japanese couple's baby. For this she will be paid $8,000 (£4,967), enough to build a new house and send her own two children, aged five and seven, to an English-speaking school – something she never thought was possible.

"I'm happy from the bottom of my heart," says Vasanti.

She was implanted (cấy ghép) with their embryo (phôi thai) in the small city of Anand in Gujarat and will spend the next nine months living in a nearby dormitory (ký túc xá) with about 100 other surrogate mothers (người mẹ thay thế (tức là phụ nữ đẻ con thay cho người khác không có khả năng sinh đẻ)), all patients (bệnh nhân) of Dr Nayna Patel.

There are up to 10 surrogate mothers in each room. The women have their meals and vitamins delivered to them and are encouraged to rest.

Here is more, and it is estimated that the sector in India is valued at about $1.5 billion a year. The individuals receiving the money have a problem, though:
"My parents will be pleased that their son and his wife have managed to build a house. Our status in society will go up, which will be a good thing."
But the new house comes at a price. It will not be built in the same area as their old one, because of hostility from neighbours.
"If you are at home then everyone knows that we are doing surrogacy, that this is a test tube baby, and they use bad language. So then we can't stay there safely," says Vasanti.

"Have more than one string to your fiddle" nghĩa là gì?

"Have more than one string to (one's) fiddle" = chơi được nhiều dây (đàn) -> nghĩa là nhiều tài.

Ví dụ
Drinkers in The Hop will be used to seeing art on the walls. Mr Putt said: “I might have more than one string to my fiddle but art isn’t one. I don’t have an artistic bone in my body. I like to see it and I like to encourage local talent as well – and there’s plenty of it.”

Unlike the ladies, they can’t get the delicate balance of selling and interaction down but they have far more time to fill so that’s not easy. Doing the brawling and the chair spots shows a different side for a consummate grappler (bàn tay tài giỏi) like Dunne and it’s important to have more than one string to your fiddle.

She was quick to tell friends they could not ride her new bike, but she had one extremely persistent (kiên định) person asking her to ride it — her 9-year-old brother — me! I do not have more than one string to my fiddle, but one of my strengths is not quitting once I put my mind to something. I needed to ride her bike, so I wouldn’t stop asking, aka guilting, her until she said yes.

"On the string" nghĩa là gì?

"On the string" = trên sợi dây căng -> nghĩa là đang trong tình trạng không chắc chắn đầy lo âu/hồi hộp.

Ví dụ
Parents can help their children and themselves by practicing grounding tools when the inevitable back-to-school jitters (bồn chồn, hốt hoảng) arise. Start by helping your child identify when they are on the string .

"I play with a kite. I found my old kite (diều) under a table when I was cleaning a couple of weeks ago. So I picked it up, unravelled it, and went down to my local park. I let go of the whole length of the string and it was beautiful feeling the tension on the string and being in contact with the wind."

Anxiety impacts our thoughts and behavior. People often become more irritable (cáu kỉnh) and defensive when they’re on the string. Some people become avoidant (né tránh, tránh xa) e.g., they leave tasks till the last minute, which can infuriate (làm tức điên lên) their team members. Others become excessively perfectionistic (hoàn hảo, cầu toàn).

"Keep (someone or something) on a string" = giật dây -> nghĩa là kiểm soát, điều khiển hoặc cai quản ai/cái gì.

Ví dụ
If he wasn’t fully committed to the idea of playing, though, he said wasn’t expecting the Vikings to wait around for him, and he didn’t want to keep them on a string.

“There are exceptions, but as a general rule you get a little bit less than what you’re paying for, and companies spend money to do that. The whole game is to keep you on a string. Before the savings and loans went under, they were papered with bales of paper. Paperwork from a crook (kẻ lừa gạt) is a license to steal.”

“He’s really unique,” began Gretzky, “because he has the ability for all three factors — his hands, his brain, his feet — to be on the exact same page. A lot of guys can get one or two of the three. I mean, most guys at the NHL level have the hands to keep it on a string. But my gosh, he has the ability to do that at a faster speed than maybe anyone else in the history of the game.

"Fall off the map" = rơi khỏi bản đồ -> nghĩa là dần bị lãng quên sau khoảng thời gian nổi tiếng.

Ví dụ
The Buccaneers have basically no shot at Micah Parsons in next year’s draft unless they really fall off the map.

Kevin Stefanski’s love for using multiple tight (chặt) ends at once adds another layer of difficulty. Don’t expect Hooper to fall off the map, but he could drop outside of the top 10.

“If you are in a leadership (lãnh đạo) meeting, and you look around the room and everyone looks the same, then you are very unrepresented,” she said. “That’s something to be very aware of and make efforts, and not efforts that fall off the map in a month or two, but really concerted efforts within the organization.”

"On the stocks" có stocks là kho dự trữ, kho; hàng cất trong kho; hàng tồn kho -> cụm từ này nghĩa là đang được sản xuất, xây dựng, đang được chuẩn bị.

Ví dụ
Indeed, a book on the lost values of Professionalism is on the stocks.

Granted, there have been many false dawns for the sector in recent years. Barron’s has written favorably on the stocks, including a cover story in August. Yet investors probably should have some exposure to energy, and now may be a good time to get it.

In Whitehall, the existing policy is usually defended until a new one is on the stocks. It is significant that there are senior figures dropping hints that the rail review will propose sweeping change. But if it does, the DfT has to be clear that implementation (sự thi hành, thực hiện) must be well planned and properly focused. Painful as it is to move slowly, it would be a mistake to move too fast. Time invested in planning for change at the start will ultimately lead to a better chance of the plan being implemented successfully.

“We put no stock in public polls of any kind,” Trump campaign spokesperson Tim Murtaugh told reporters this week. Asked about the new surveys, Trump re-election campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh told reporters on Thursday that "we put no stock in public polls of any kind." And pointing specifically to the New York Times/Siena national and battleground state polls, Murtaugh argued that the surveys included "an under sampling of Republicans."

"Be stock still" nghĩa là gì?

"Be stock still" -> nghĩa là đứng im một chỗ, không di chuyển.

Ví dụ
There appears to be stock still inside the shop but Mr Moore has told the ECHO that the business is continuing to trade normally – from a pop-up shop in Liverpool One and from a new permanent base in Lanyork Road, close to Pall Mall.

I was surprised to find out that Ellis will be able to carry on cell phone conversations in the woods despite the horror genre's strict ban on cell reception anywhere outside city limits, though it looks Bloober Team will use that for dramatic effect at certain points of the game as well. Even if none of these beats have felt all that unpredictable - how much do you want to bet if we ever see another living person they'll be stock still and staring at a wall - they're still encouraging. They're all what could make it feel like playing your own Blair Witch movie on PC or Xbox One rather than just another first-person horror game in the woods.

The inspection technique for AVI is simple and effective. The machines rapidly spin the container to create a vortex (cơn lốc) and then stop it suddenly, which conserves the liquid’s and particles’ motion according to their inertia (tính trì trệ). The rest of the scene must be stock-still, which can be done by cameras moving along with the machine transport or by a moving mirror system. From a series of pictures and their pixelwise subtraction (sự trừ), the moving reflections within the container area-on the picture-will be visible and create a detection signal. Human inspectors perform the same test by shaking, tilting, and flipping the container in their hands and watching for moving contrast.

"Albatross around your neck" nghĩa là gì?

It has become some albatross around his neck. Pius’ alleged role in the Australia visa scandal is well documented and has been touted by critics as one incident that occurred where the government showed its lax (lỏng lẻo, không nghiêm) attitude in the fight against corruption (chống tham nhũng).

Mary Jo Copeland recalls that her husband, Dick, was a little dubious (mơ hồ) when she first raised the idea of starting a storefront center to help the poor in Minneapolis in the mid-1980s. He told her that "it's going to be an albatross around your neck; you'll never be able to leave it," she recalled. But she told him God was calling her to do it.

Bankrolling (cung cấp vốn cho) your kids. This is a serious problem for many older couples and their kids. As a father of five, I understand the desire to help kids get a good start in life. However, few things are more debilitating (làm suy yếu) to a family than having adult children remain dependent on their parents. It’s kind of like that sign I saw at Yellowstone: “Don’t Feed the Bears.” Financial dependence will stunt (làm chậm sự phát triển) their growth and become a financial albatross around your neck.

"Tear to ribbons" nghĩa là gì?

"Tear (someone or something) to ribbons" = xé tan thành từng mảnh -> nghĩa là chỉ trích, phê bình, quở trách thậm tệ.

Ví dụ
He was writing a book about the slave-owning family that owned his family. Did you see the latest Spike Lee movie? What do you think about Public Enemy’s last album? Joe had a very acute sense of power, and if he felt his interlocutor (người nói chuyện, đối thoại) flinch (lưỡng lự, chùn bước), he’d tear him to ribbons. But I can’t count the number of times at a party I turned around again after a few minutes and saw Joe and his new best friend bright in the light of Joe’s warm laugh.

The spear (cái giáo, xiên) trap, given to me by a couple of helpful feral (hung dữ, cục súc) children, works perfectly, impaling the lunging wolf just as it's about to tear me to ribbons. I prepare to disassemble the carcass (tháo rời thân giá), gleefully—wolves have been a frequent cause of death in games past—when two more wolves suddenly appear. It’s about the most fleeting victory in video games history, I wind up torn to ribbons yet again, and my dreams of spitefully dining on delicious wolf jerky go unfulfilled.

When it returned, the show attempted to take the controversy (cuộc tranh luận, bàn cãi) on for comic effect with comments by Margaret Cho clearly referencing the remarks when describing the VMA host’s dreadlocks (tóc cuốn lọn dài). It was a “oh no she didn’t moment” which clearly embarrassed Rancic, reminded the audience of the fallout and largely fell flat. At heart of the issue is the sincerity of the comments and responses. Rancic was recorded gushing about Amal Clooney’s frock (áo dài, áo choàng) on the evening of the Golden Globes only to tear her to ribbons the next day on the show. It’s hard to escape the sense that the hosts are simply mean.

"Tear up the pea patch" = cày nát vườn đậu -> nghĩa là đâm đầu vào những cuộc ăn chơi chè chén lu bù và điên cuồng. Có thể cụm từ này bắt nguồn từ môn bóng chày khi cầu thủ chạy điên cuồng và phá hoại cuộc thi đấu.

Ví dụ
This messenger was Walter Lanier Barber, universally known as "Red" and revered as one of the best baseball broadcasters ever. Calling Dodgers games in the 1940s, he was known for folksy (bình dân, dễ chan hòa) Southern phrases like "tearing up the pea patch."

Keep in mind that Energy wasn’t exactly tearing up the pea patch even in 2019, before COVID-19 came along. So we’re talking about a sector that, for lack of better words, can be called bruised and battered.

Combined, these four have a market capitalization (vốn hóa thị trường) of around $600 billion, which is nothing to sniff at even if together it only amounts to slightly less than one-third of Apple’s (AAPL) value. Yet, unlike AAPL, these companies aren’t exactly tearing up the pea patch this year. INTC is down 25% year to date, hurt recently by a delay in one of its major products. ORCL is up about 2% this year as its cloud and software businesses face tough competition. CSCO is roughly flat, with analysts saying its business has been vulnerable to the global economic downturn (sự suy thoái kinh tế toàn cầu). That also seems true for HP, the smallest of the four, where shares are down 13% year to date.

"In a tight corner" nghĩa là gì?

Photo by: Soroush Karimi on Unsplash

"In a tight corner" = trong góc hẹp -> nghĩa là trong tình huống khó xử/khó khăn, không dễ dàng thoát ra.

Ví dụ
He’s not providing federal guidance (chỉ đạo) let alone (sẽ không bao giờ xảy ra) funding for schools to safely reopen, just pushing for enough of a return to normal to get him through November. And, if that helps erode the public school system and puts mostly Democratic and unionized (tổ chức thành công đoàn) teachers in a tight corner, that’s icing on his filthy cake.

"Iran is really in a tight corner," historian (nhà sử học) Dr Menahem Merhavy from Tel Aviv University, who focuses on Iran, said.

Masuku has been placed in a tight corner by the revelations, with mounting calls by ANC alliance (liên minh) partners in Gauteng for him to step aside from his post, in a similar manner to what Diko did from her duties as Ramaphosa's spokesperson.

Hạ giải nhà thờ Bùi Chu: Còn đó nỗi lòng cha xứ

thôi hết rồi...

By Wednesday, workers had removed tiles (ngói) from the floor and dismantled (tháo dỡ, phá hủy, triệt phá) much of the roof of the cathedral, which is in Nam Dinh Province, about two hours south of Hanoi. A high fence (hàng rào cao) has been erected (dựng lên,  cương cứng) around the building, and demolition will most likely be completed by early next month.

“This would amount to an irremediable loss (tổn thất không thể sửa chữa) of heritage (di sản) for Vietnam, for the world, and for the Catholic Church itself,” said Martin Rama, a top economist with the World Bank who has worked to save the building. “Indeed, the ancient Bui Chu Cathedral embodies an amazing intersection of culture, history, and architecture.”

As Vietnam’s population and economy have grown in recent decades, the country has lost much of its cultural heritage with the destruction — or aggressive (hung hăng) renovation — of numerous French colonial buildings, pagodas and temples.

cô dâu đặt bánh cưới có 2 con công, thì nhận được bánh như có con gà tây bị hủi... :D

Rena Davis, 52, paid $300 for the design featuring two peacocks (công) and a trail (vạch, vệt dài) of chocolate cupcakes, but was instead left to get hitched alongside a wedding cake that looked more like a “lopsided turkey with leprosy (bệnh hủi),”.

To make matters even worse, the peacock’s head fell off just after being delivered and the icing — which was supposed to be fondant (kẹo mềm) — was made of buttercream instead.

“I felt heartbroken,” Davis told The Sun. “I saw [the cake] and walked out of the room.”

“Well Tom your latest review is accompanied by a picture of my husband dining with a woman who isn’t me!” the woman wrote.

“Once confronted with photographic evidence, he confessed (thú nhận) to having an ongoing affair (chuyện tình).”

“Just thought you’d be amused to hear of your part in the drama (vở kịch).” she added. “This Thanksgiving  (lễ tạ ơn) I’m grateful to you for exposing a cheat (dối lừa, tình gian dối)!”

Có cần thiết phải học 'quản lý tài chính cá nhân' ở trường phổ thông?

shared from fb pham anh tuan,
