"After you, my dear Alphonse" nghĩa là gì?

"After you, my dear Alphonse" = mời bạn trước, Alphonse yêu quý -> câu nói lịch sự dùng khi cả hai người đang làm việc giống nhau cùng lúc. Câu này có nguồn gốc từ hai người đàn ông lịch sự có tên Alphonse và Gaston trong cuốn truyện tranh Happy Hooligan từ những năm 1920.
Ví dụ
She cites "After You, My Dear Alphonse," in which Jackson pokes (trêu chọc) fun at a white woman's presumption that her son's Black friend is poor, and in need of food and clothing.
Opper died in 1937 and the strip faded (phai nhạt) from public visibility. However, the catchphrase “After you, my dear Alphonse” lived on. For many, it continues to this present day, used in situations when two people are being overly courteous (lịch sự) to each other or contemplating (suy ngẫm) how to return a shot down the middle of the tennis court.
“After you, my dear Alphonse,” was the thought that went through my mind. Then the general went down the line and put Chinese wings on us all. I could think of nothing as the general approached but the utter glee I felt that for a brief time at least my shirt was going to be gaudier (lòe loẹt) than Kiernan’s. The fact that it meant not a goddamn thing only added to my pleasure.
I promised Lisa not to get too after-you-my-dear-Alphonse in these framing (làm khung) posts. But I can’t sign off without telling you all that of the three Slate Movie Clubs it’s been my privilege (ân huệ) to host so far, this has been my very favorite (and, given how much fun they’ve all been, that’s praise indeed).
