"Sent to the Tower" = đưa đến tòa tháp -> nghĩa là bỏ tù hoặc bị trừng phạt. Cụm từ này thường được sử dụng bởi người Anh vì "the Tower" ám chỉ Tower of London, một nhà tù nổi tiếng.

Ví dụ
Paul noted the song was comic rather than critical and noted how society has evolved (tiến triển) such that he could write a song like “Her Majesty.” “It’s just a cheeky little song. It sort of sums up how things have changed, doesn’t it? You can write songs like that and not get sent to the Tower.”

These are the very seats upon which Her Majesty would have parked her Royal behind. Assuming we’re not sent to the Tower for making such a comment, we’ll go on to say the interior was finished with a tan leather interior, acres of walnut veneer, vanity lights and picnic tables. No doubt the Queen was quite partial to (mê, thích) a snack on the way back from a private party.

He wrote the laws making the King, not the Pope, the head of the English Church, and declaring the English monasteries, with all their wealth, the property of the Crown. To achieve these epochal (trọng đại) changes, he had to impose his will on many people, and that is clear in Holbein’s painting. Cromwell is hard and heavy and dressed all in black. His mean little eyes peer forward, as if he were deciding whom to pillory (gông cổ), whom to send to the Tower.
