"Fair to middling" nghĩa là gì?

"Fair to middling" có middling là vừa phải -> cụm từ này nghĩa là vừa phải, không tốt mà cũng không tệ, ở mức trung bình.

Ví dụ
In 1874 in Australia, women could not only not vote but not own personal property. With a fair to middling chance of dying in childbirth, their average (trung bình) life expectancy was 35. Divorce did not entitle them to spousal or child support. They could, however, play cricket, but only just.

But reviews have generally remained fair to middling, and the brand has grown to seem more like an afterthought (cách giải quyết sau) in recent years. Prices have increased somewhat for early bottlings, but they’re still easy enough to find, both on the secondary market and at retail.

In other words, when I have been telling people I feel “fair to midland”, I really mean “fair to middling,” which in turn means I am telling the world my sheep’s wool (sợi len) is not so good.

Yes, lessons are learned, and hugs exchanged and there’re even some fair-to-middling song-and-dance numbers. But mostly “The Prom” is a preening self-satisfied mess.
