"Milk and water" nghĩa là gì?

"Milk and water" = sữa pha nước -> nghĩa là nhạt nhẽo, yếu ớt; không có tinh thần, ý chí.

O'Donovan Rossa was defiant (ngang ngạnh). 'I am not talking to the milk and water people,' he wrote in the Irish World. I am talking to those who mean fight.

To those who knew him, however, he in no way suggests a milk-and-water person; they objected to him as a dangerous firebrand (kẻ xúi giục bạo động).

This ideal is radically opposed at every point to the autarchy (chủ quyền tuyệt đối) advocated by the fascists (chủ nghĩa phát xít); and it is no less opposed to the isolationism, moral and physical and political, advocated by most American liberals —a passive milk-and-water version of the fascist’s contemptuous (khinh người) attitude toward the rest of the human race (loài người).
