“Little pitchers have big ears” may be an old-fashioned folk saying, but the message is still true today: Our kids hear everything we say and usually internalize (tiếp thu) it. That fact has been top of mind for actor and entrepreneur Jessica Alba as she polices (kiểm soát) what she says about her body in front of her three kids, Honor, 12, Haven, 9, and Hayes, 3 (with hubby Cash Warren).
She doesn’t flinch, she isn’t embarrassed or apologetic (hối tiếc). She gives me that smug smile with the lips closed over the teeth. What she says is not to me but to Aunt Mildred. ‘Little pitchers have big ears.’
One of my favorite folksy idioms is "little pitchers have big ears." For those of you unfamiliar with the saying, it basically means "be careful what you say around children: they're always listening." (Just ask my partner (đồng nghiệp), who worked for months trying to get our toddler to say "Thank you" but discovered that one "Goddamnit" had our little one swearing constantly.)
Little pitchers have big ears, as the saying goes, but those ears still need protection from loud music. Audio played through headphones at a high volume can damage children’s hearing.
