A 23-year-old Canaan man is facing drunken driving charges after he allegedly crashed his car while trying to give the finger to an Upper Valley police chief on Interstate 91 last week.

Jordan Deford was charged with driving under the influence.

The crash occurred just before 4 p.m. when Deford passed Windsor Police Chief Jennifer Frank, who also was driving southbound on the interstate, and lifted a hand to make a “gesture with his middle finger,” at her.

As he did, Deford lost control of the 2014 Chrysler sedan he was driving and went off the road into the grassy median, hitting the curbing on the Bugbee Street overpass. The front end of Deford’s car was damaged, and it had to be towed from the median.
