"Cotton on to someone/something" có cotton là hiểu -> cụm từ này nghĩa là bắt đầu hiểu ra; nghĩa khác là thích, đồng tình với quan điểm của ai.

Ví dụ
Jardine is already a big fan and the Dumfriesshire handler said: “The prize money is amazing and we were quick to cotton on to it. Bill and his team, and the sponsors (nhà tài trợ) Sky Bet, have done really well to get it to such high levels. The £100,000 for a horse winning a race at all three meetings is tempting and we’ll certainly be having a pop at that as well.”

That makes for a very interesting aesthetic (có óc thẩm mỹ) and storytelling opportunity for creatives and artists. And the braver, smarter clients will cotton on to it. The imaginative scope is infinite, really. Where do you want to go?

I do love old Keith, and I do love the way people cotton on to him. It’s one part of me and a lot of that’s in the past. I’m growing up, or rather evolving (tiến hóa). I suppose with grandchildren I suddenly realise I’m in it for the longer haul.

The wonder for me about Helen McCrory — whose passing, at 52, is so cruel (tàn ác), so sad, such a profound and premature loss to the acting profession — is how relatively long it took for people to cotton on to her magnificence.
