"A pricking in one's thumbs" = ngón cái đau nhói -> nghĩa là trực giác, điềm báo cho điều gì sắp xảy ra.
Ví dụ
But you don’t need a pricking in your thumbs to tell which witches (phù thủy) made the biggest impression on Lewis. “I’m a ride-or-die Craft fan,” she exclaims. “I was obsessed, I can still quote it line for line.” “I think it was this very specific story of four female outcasts who find their strength together.”
And it is a pricking in your thumbs. Just as you hear that voice as a writer, you feel that quiver (rung lên) in the air around you. And I think it’s the same for an editor as for a reader. You find yourself suddenly caught in a world that you want to continue to be within—that you feel is going to open up in front of you as you go forward, whether it’s for the writing or for the storytelling or, in the case of nonfiction (văn xuôi), the subject is suddenly so extraordinary or so captivating (quyến rũ). I believe in being captured.
A pricking in my thumbs seems to tell me that the fragmentation (vỡ ra từng mảnh) of light through a lens, or series of lenses, is likely to have had had something to do with it.
Hmmm! I feel a pricking in my thumbs.......and that left over bottle of Christmas whisky is singing siren sweet! Looking forward to your next post R.S-S.!!!
